Family – Recent

We would like to get online a lot more photos of our immediate family, but unfortunately many, many of the meaningful photos over the years are wrapped swaddling clothing, I means plastic wrappers in Photo Albums which was the norm of most of the more mature folks (not older) who read this WebBlog. Oh well, work in progress!

Travel Photos

In view of COVID-19, we have had but minimal travel over the last few years, and that has been via automobile.  We traveled frequently in Virginia Beach and Williamsburg, and the following summary of travel excludes many trips that we have taken over the past twenty years, including several for annual reunions of retired Navy and Marine Corps judge advocates (JAGs); a wonderful trip to Hawaii where we were hosted by the Occhuizzos; and other incidental travels.  On the other hand, on many occasions we have had to cancel cruises and other travel, for one reason or another (including our unexpected move to Fort Myers).

Cruise Vancouver to Alaska 2003 (With George and Kitty Williams)Celebrating Our 40th Anniversaries

Most of you know the story, but George and I were fraternity brothers and headed for the Navy upon graduation from college. Kitty and George, and I, met Barrie for the first time together at a party weekend at the University of Vermont. That was in February of 1963. By June of 1963, we had eloped with George and Kitty standing up for us; and Kitty and George had also eloped and we returned the favor by standing up for them.

The other folks in these Alaska photos are Bill’s late cousin John Larsen and his daughter Mary who were living in Juneau at the time.

Bermuda Cruise 2005 with Jeff and Kathryn Michael

Kathryn Michael (nee Vanlier) lived in an adjacent town house in Reston with her parents Ken and Mary.  Kathryn had just graduated from the University of Alabama.  Her husband to be, Jeff, was the construction supervisor at the complex where we lived.  After leaving Reston we occasionally saw Mary and Ken, but over the years we gradually became more geographically co-located with Kathryn and Jeff who were living in the South (Kathryn, Jeff, Marry and Ken are all located in St. Augustine now).

Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Maine 2015 (With Coughlins and Occhuizzos)

The six of us flew to Boston and rented what we affectionately as the “Beast” for the next week and a half.  First stop: Newport, Rhode Island.  Sightseeing (including “The Breakers”) Newport proper, and what’s known as “10-Mile Drive” around the beautiful waterfront and homes of the Newport Narragansett surroundings.  Ate a lot and frolicked a lot.  We even forced the others to see where we lived in Newport in the 60s.  Then it was on to Cape Cod where we all bunked with the aforementioned George and Kitty Williams.  Toured the entire Cape, and spent time on the boat to, and on, Martha’s Vineyard.  Pigged out on Lobster sandwiches at the Sesuit Harbor Café in Dennisport.  Next stop was Maine where we did (top to bottom) Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park, Castine, Camden, Rockport, and Boothbay Harbor over the next several days before flying back to Williamsburg and the real world. It was a hilariously fun trip and I regret that I don’t have more photos (perhaps someone will send more to me digitally?) But there are not enough photos to show the pleasure we took in the trip.
