This Blog was initially purposed as a means of keeping in touch with the five couples who comprise what I have dubbed the TT Colonial Heritage ex-Pats, neighbors in our Colonial Heritagedevelopment in Williamsburg who have moved to Florida, albeit in different communities. With this Post, the TT pages come alive.
To see what, if anything, is going on with the TT Colonial Heritage ex-Pats, go first to theTT News page. From there are links to TT Photo and TT Video pages. Hopefully it is worthwhile.
A few housekeeping notes:
On the Sports Page I have added a clip of Roger Federer’s farewell speech from active tennis, and a clip of the evolution of Stefan Curry as a force in the NBA.
On the Britain’s Got Talent pagea different kind of Flash Mob is introduced.
On the America’s Got Talent page an unusual Elvis imitator performs.
As you know, Hurricane Ian wreaked havoc on Southwest Florida the week of September 26th. We consider ourselves tremendously fortunate to have suffered but minor non-structural to our place and the inconveniences associated with major storms, loss of electricity (for 6 days – good job FPL) and water issues (we are still under a ”boil water” restriction).
As to our Williamsburg ex-Pat friends here in Florida, we are saddened by reports of structural damage to the spanking new home of Tom and Sande Hawkins in Englewood ; and (as of this writing) the continuing loss of electricity at the home of Fred and Sue Biel.
On a positive note, we the Williamsburg ex-Pats will be all traveling to the home of Peter and Julia Shoup for a reunion this coming week October 11-14.
As to Fort Myers itself, as well as many other SWFL communities, the human suffering and damage loss is huge – catastrophic. Barrie and I have gone through some hurricanes and typhoons in the past, and I have weathered storms at sea, but Ian represents what weatherman Don Slater, WAVY TV in Tidewater VA, would call the “Storm of the Century”.
Immediately below is a ”time-lapse” video taken on Fort Myers Beach near the LanaKai resort. The video speaks for itself. Next after the video is a slideshow showing aerial photos of Ian’s destruction. The video and photos are disturbing, and were hard for me to watch.
Really pretty rough stuff! If you so desire, click here for more videos from Fort Myers north to Siesta Key.
Now for a few of Bill’s typical tidbits: Clever Restroom Signs
On this day, your birthday, please explain to us how in the world the guy in the clip below does what he does?
I should have had more entertainment for you today Fred, but we just received power and internet again. I hope that you and Sue, and Tom and Sande, also have your vital services back.
I have two items of interest (or not) for you today. 1) I have another You Tube talent discovery. Her name is Lucy Thomas, she’s from GreatBritain, she’s 17 years old now, and she started her walk to fame when she was 13 on a British TV called “Kids Voices”. I may be the last person on the planet to “discover” her, but it was worth the wait. Voice of an angel! See the following clip.
If you are likingwhat you are hearing, click here for a Playlist of her recordings, some with younger sister Martha. Her rendition of ”Hallelujah” – at the end of the Playlist is particularly good.
2) Lookee, lookee below for the (somewhat) progress on our own ”A Place for Mom and Dad”.
No birthdays to celebrate this time around, but Happy Sunday. It’s a slack Saturday here in Fort Myers (but what’s new?). For all you piano people out there, however, I have discovered Cole Lam, a now 15 year-old living in Great Britain. He apparently been a You Tube phenom since he was a 12 year-old and living in Hong Kong. Below are four videos: the first two are clips that provide background for Cole Lam youngster; the third is a playlist of some of his work, at ages of 12, 13, 14, and 15; the fourth video is one the likes of which you have probably seen in the past, but I still cannot figure out how it is stitched together. Finally, on the Flo Lum page there has been added a recipe Mojico Air Fryer Chicken Wings.
To begin with, lets go back in time to hear, remember, and appreciate the trumpet of Satchmo and the voice of Ella
Two nature videos for a Tuesday
Remembering our terrific dinners and entertainment at the CH Clubhouse
Finally, I have added at the end of the AGT (America’s Got Talent) page a nice rendition of Elton John’s ”Rocketman” by Sara James; and at the end of the Flo Lum recipe page her version of North Shore Hawaii Food Truck Garlic Shrimp – who could possibly pass up on Food Truck shrimp. We tried on it on 9/2, and it was good and easy to make – beware of the garlic, however.
Oh, how about some great habits of the modem Japanese people? I don’t see those habits necessarily occurring in the good US of A.Followed by a performance by the late John Denver and the late Olivia Newton John. And the grand finale? An adorable (Barrie’s word, not mine) penguin story.
