Fort Myers Hurricane Damage
As you know, Hurricane Ian wreaked havoc on Southwest Florida the week of September 26th. We consider ourselves tremendously fortunate to have suffered but minor non-structural to our place and the inconveniences associated with major storms, loss of electricity (for 6 days – good job FPL) and water issues (we are still under a ”boil water” restriction).
As to our Williamsburg ex-Pat friends here in Florida, we are saddened by reports of structural damage to the spanking new home of Tom and Sande Hawkins in Englewood ; and (as of this writing) the continuing loss of electricity at the home of Fred and Sue Biel.
On a positive note, we the Williamsburg ex-Pats will be all traveling to the home of Peter and Julia Shoup for a reunion this coming week October 11-14.
As to Fort Myers itself, as well as many other SWFL communities, the human suffering and damage loss is huge – catastrophic. Barrie and I have gone through some hurricanes and typhoons in the past, and I have weathered storms at sea, but Ian represents what weatherman Don Slater, WAVY TV in Tidewater VA, would call the “Storm of the Century”.
Immediately below is a ”time-lapse” video taken on Fort Myers Beach near the LanaKai resort. The video speaks for itself. Next after the video is a slideshow showing aerial photos of Ian’s destruction. The video and photos are disturbing, and were hard for me to watch.
Really pretty rough stuff! If you so desire, click here for more videos from Fort Myers north to Siesta Key.
